Plus their credo is really something I can connect to: "Make furniture that is desirable and durable so there is no reason to replace it or throw it away". I've always been puzzled by people that took pride in changing their furniture each year or so - it's obviously that they buy crappy stuff and replace it with something just as crappy. 'xcuse my French :)

The idea with furniture is that you should invest in something good-looking, durable and - obviously - meaningful. You don't just need a sofa - or a chair. It's gotta be a little more than that.

Hi, guys! Sorry for the lack of posts, but I'm really busy these days.

Although it's the "good" kind of busy, 'cause I'm taking care of BURP, the brand I created together with my friend Nico.

Above you can see some of the things we make.

We're bringing all our BURP kiddies at Sala Dalles in Bucharest, at the March fair. If you want to drop by, we'll be more than happy to meet you. The fair lasts until March 8th. Maybe then I'll have more time for finding cool stuff and posting in here.

What's more familiar than a cute teddy bear? We've all had at least one - and developed a special relationship with it. Come on, don't be shy! There's nothing wrong in admitting you loved your teddy :)

But the cuddly toy might not seem as familiar in the pictures from Kent Rogowski's project "Bears". These teddy bears have all been turned inside out and restuffed, looking both creepy and cute. The project aims at showing these bears have always been there for their owners, but they also have a life of their own and they go through different experiences that leave traces on them.

"It is by virtue of revealing their inner core might we better understand our own", the author says.

Today was a happy day. The kind of "tough - stressful - yet - very - funny" day. It was one of those days I have when everything seems hard, but then again it goes so smooth and I end up asking myself "Why do I always get so stressed up? EVERYTHING always works out great in the end!!!!!"
Well, today I learned that some people are innante communicators - while others are just trying to learn how to do it - or worse, trying to fake it. Looking full of themselves, never at ease when speaking or moving - and always ... BUT ALWAYS ... looking silly. Do you ever get that feeling when you're in a conversation - that you're watching a bad movie, in which all the dialogues are completely unnatural - and you could even name the books/authors they're citing?

Guys, of course there are some good marketing/communication books out there. Of course there are some useful tips - and some useful strategies. But let's face it: don't be artificial about it, 'cause it will never work. Or better yet, if you don't use your own critical sense - at least swallow everything with a grain of salt.

Pleeeeease, but please :)

Is there anything gurls won't do in order to look pretty? Mascara, fake eyelashes, fake nails, chocolate wrappings and all - well, forget the last one, this isn't in fact so bad :P

But still, the idea is that the beauty industry just keeps on adding stuff to our faces. It's not enough getting ONE face cream: you gotta get one for the day, one for the night, one with solar protection, one for the eyes and so on... And let's not think about foundation, eyeliners, lipsticks and all the rest.

But once in a while, something stunning appears on the store shelves. Just when you thought you've seen it all (and believe me, feather eyelashes aren't a piece of cake), there's something new! Like these Lash Gems from Sephora. It seems they're easy on the eyes and they give you a "princess" look. I know a girl that's really into crystals embellishing...EVERYTHING! Clothes, jewelry, even notebooks. I'll let her know about these Gems. Maybe she'll like...amaze me :)

The sun keeps shining these days and I can't help thinking of Spring. I dunno why, but I get so much energy just from looking out the window :) Right now, it's super-busy at work, so I have to stay inside. But that's OK for now. Inside can be sunny, too. The beautiful artwork of Dipped Joy would look just great on the office walls! It's got such a gloomy-but-somehow-funny vibe :) I love it!

Who doesn't like vintage stuff - whether it's fashion or home decoration? Well, besides the good looks and inherent "stories" these objects come with, let's give them a big plus for the environmental-friendliness.

Yup, they also do nature a lot of good - why chop yet ANOTHER tree for a new chair, when you can refurbish a lovely piece you already own or can get almost for free?

Take the example of Alabama Chanin, a wonderful design studio that mixes new, organic and recycled materials in order to create superb works of art.

The above piece is made out of old, handmade kitchen chairs (circa 1900) and woven recycled men's ties.

I'm just working on a campaign in which we're using black and white as THE colors.

Because someone thought that's the classiest combination ever...

Of course, as with everything in this world, I have to disagree with others in some aspect or another :) But it's not just that I'm picky or anything, I just like a good lil' debate :)

Now let's be serious. I just hate in when everybody goes "oh, yeah, that's classy" or "well, everybody knows black and white is stylish" and so on. Agreed. It CAN be stylish. With a good dose of fashion sense and with a nose for details - you CAN walk past the "waiter/waitress look" and join the "stylish" crowd. Or you can even take the black&white combo a step further - and use kitsch in order to be cool. But hey, it's much more than choosing something black, something white and immediately thinking "I CAN'T go wrong with that!".

So basically what I'm saying you CAN look awful dressed in something you think is "safe" - just because there is no such thing as being safe in fashion. And safe is boring, anyways.

So here's a little something that shows black and white can be more than "just safe": it can be cool, crazy, funky - but it's gotta be fun!

Just yesterday I was watching a Tv show where a family wanted their house decorated in a "modern" and "stylish" way, but on a budget - obviously. Well, I wasn't really impressed by the result (read: it wasn't a pretty sight), but it got me thinking. Lots of people misunderstand the word "modern". But that's not the case for pets, mind you!

I'm a big fan of people behaving (or looking) like kids, even though they're well into adulthood. And this year I've especially admired the animal hats. You know Comme des Garcons' collection with Minnie Mouse inspired hats? Gorgeous, huh?

In fact, here's a little secret: I totally envy my 3 year old cousin, who has has all these beaaauuuutiful bunny eared caps or bear-like hoodies. And I think that's the common idea among people - except in Japan - that this kind of dress-up should be restricted to 3 year olds.

But hey, the wonderful picture above (via The Sartorialist) made me think "She looks great!". Obviously, as Sart says, the color combo is truly on-spot, but I also love the hat. Without it, I think the whole outfit would have missed the playful, naive bits. And that's in fact what makes it so great!

Hi, guys! Hope you had a great time during the holidays. It's been pretty fun for us - and I dunno exactly why, but, personally, I'm feeling full of energy and ready to do "stuff". :)

No, I didn't exactly get a lot of sleep, but I guess that's what usually happens in the first days of the year. So I'm sure it's just temporary :)

Anyway, as most of us are already in the office by now, back to work, I thought a little bit of fun could come in handy. So here we go: did you know that the word "fuck" is actually an acronym - derived from the phrase "Fornicate Under Command of the King"?

Or that the sentence "the quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog" uses every letter in the English language? Or that the first popsicle was actually made in Rome?

It seems the focus has moved from colors and lenghts to fabrics. And not any kind of fabrics, but organic ones.

So don't worry: you can probably dismiss all thoughts in the -"should it be a long dress or a mini one?" - "should I wear black or pink?" - "should I go for the Greek-godess style or should I choose minimal?" category and simply think...green. And by thinking green, we don't mean this is THE color of the party season. It's more than that: it'a a philosophy, it's a way of life. It's about saving water, recycling your trash and investing in the quality of life, rather than in the green envious looks you might get from others when wearing the "fancy" dress.

And it seems like designers agree. Some of them might be saying "forget the superficial stuff and get real" in a way that's both trendy and caring. Take Benhaz Sarafpour for example. Her latest capsule collection, shown at the NY Fashion Week, was made entirely by hand, using only natural and organic materials. She said in an interview for Inhabitat that the decision to make this collection was not just for the sake of getting media attention and looking "environmentally friendly", but because she really believes in doing good.

In the end, the motive doesn't even count that much, does it? But we're totally loving designers who care. So...if you didn't buy a party dress yet, think about alternatives.

If you're out shopping for a Christmas tree these days - and you don't know exactly how to adorn it, here's a bit of an idea: try using some artwork instead of the traditional -- and sometimes kitschy -- ornaments.

I remember my mom used to always decorate the tree in an artistic manner - which I didn't really get at first (as a kid, you're inclined to pile up on differently colored bulbs, messy garlands and so on). While the concept of minimalist decorating - usually two colors only and hand-made bows and so on - seemed impossible to me at first, now I seem to get it more and more.

And I just feel like there's a lot of bad taste when decorating for the holidays - you know, glitz doesn't always mean beautiful. (In fact, it doesn't most of the time :P)

So...the point is: better invest in something cool, with lots of personality, than to buy ornaments like crazy and just "throw" them on the tree. Here's an idea: the Snowbear Ornaments by axelhoney. They're for sale here and here and they're a guaranteed showstopper.

And yep, this is yet another "green and red" post. But that's not planned!!!! No, really, it isn't! You gotta believe me! I mean, you know: planning and me...we're like...so not in the same place :)

Well, the holidays are quickly approaching and I found myself looking for presents for St. Nic's this morning. And because I didn't find what I was looking for, I got the jitters. I realized that soon - very soon - we'll need presents! Lots of presents! And you know, if you are like me (always leaving it to the last second), it's a bit stressful. So I thought I'd shop in time this year. And have a patronizing look when I see someone rushing to buy a present, with a desperate look on their face :)

It's great to work with people that make it seem easy - and fun. But that's a truism, so I won't bother you with that. Another truism is that in your regular advertising agency, creative people and account people are a bit like the cat and the mouse - the Tom and Jerry type of "cat and mouse", if you will.

They run around, hit each other with the frying pan in the head, step on the other's tail (ouch!) and do anything they can to show the whole world they're on different fronts. But I didn't really swallow this preconception when I started working, so I guess I thought account people are OK :)
In fact, I dunno if tags like "accounts" or "creatives" should even exist. Maybe they shouldn't be like "cats" and "mice", but "bears" and "rabbits" (you know, the latter always go together:)).

So I'm all about judging people by what they really are/do, instead of using boring prejudices.

I dunno what's up with my obsession for all things writeable these days, but I think I might as well accept it. I'm totally crazy about all kinds of cute journals, notebooks and so on. It's probably because I've been drawing and writing so much lately, I almost need a new notebook each month.

But I guess it's OK, as long as it's such a pretty and not-at-all-harmful addiction :P

Oh, well, I just did :)

This morning, for example, I just ate some delicious goat cheese and I realized I should be getting more dairy products into my diet and get rid of all that meat. But enough about my eating habits. Good! But you might be surprised to find out that chewing gum can now be recycled. Designer Anna Bullus invented Gumnetic - an innovative material made from used chewing gum and bio resin. And she used Gumnetic to create the Bubble Gum Bin, which collects raw material - in the form of discarded chewing gum - in order to use it for other bins with the same destination.

...about the subway

These last 2 days I've had to travel by subway and I'm telling you...the Bucharest subway at noon is a big no-no! I mean...not only do the people push you in order to get "first" in the train, but it's also not very attractive nose or eye-wise.

In fact, it sucks. I got pushed around until I got sick and I also noticed the guy BEHIND me was prepared to use his entrance card BEFORE I could use mine...so...really now, I don't like the subway up close and personal.

But if you come to think of it, it really isn't so bad...as a concept. So it was nice to explore Metro Bits - a cool collection of stuff about subways all over the world.

Just yesterday I was talking to a friend about cars and I realized something. My passion for all things British was never a secret to me (or others, for that matter), but I never thought it stretched to cars as well. Lately, "vintage" has earned a permanent presence in our vocabulary (and lives, btw). Wearing vintage clothes, collecting vintage accessories...vintage cars, vintage interior design objects and so on. But what about plants? Well, here's a project that "aims to give the plants some deserved recognition" :)
Founded in May 2006 by Markus Bergström and Byggstudio, Vintage Plant is a very interesting journey in the life of plants and their owners. Here you can buy and sell a herbal friend - or read their stories. In a rapidly aging society like the Japanese one, initiatives like this one come in handy for old people. They are really good for helping them keep fit and prevent injuries - build more muscle, develop flexibility and generally keep in shape. And all these, just by playing! :)

So how was Halloween for all of you, guys? We had an office party, I met an old friend and talked late in the night and - pretty much - had fun. I tried to dress up as Minnie Mouse, but people told me I looked like a girl from the 20's or...a rabbit. That was obviously because of my DIY Minnie hat, whose ears might not have been ...errr... perfect. But anyway...that's OK, next year, I'll be prepared.

This weekend I tried to make some light in the mess that is my room. Tough luck! I just realized I own too - - no, way too- - no, super extra over the top way too many things :(

Which is not really so bad, as I love them all. It is a problem in terms of storage, though...

To say the truth, they all find themselves a place to stay, and it seems fine - until someone comes in and says: "Wow, what a mess!".

So I've decided to invest in some of these cool straps from Droog Design. Taking the bike straps a step further, they give your house a completely new look - tidy, that is. (Not that I'm saying your houses aren't tidy, I'm just thinking about mine :P)

I dunno why lately all these posts have been about food *straight face*, 'cause I know I ate for lunch :) I guess it's just a domain of interest for so many people, as they do lots of great stuff for it. This time, it's the Cheeky Monkey prints from Clemenger BBDO in Australia.

They're so simple, yet soooo funny! You can't stop smiling when looking at them - and they provide such a cool attitude for the brand.

I like the copy, I like the art direction and I also like the cute monkey logo. And I'm sure I'd like the product, too. And with names like "Casablanca Crunch", "Nut Mania" and "Orchard Situation", who wouldn't like to at least try one?

The eco-trend seems to have been embraced by more and more people, and that's a good thing. As for me, I've always tried to do good stuff for the environment whenever that was possible - of course, I don't exaggerate, but I try to do my part. And we all should, especially now, when things are getting pretty much out of hand.

Can't decide to pick up an eco-friendly attitude? Maybe some celebrity DOs can help. Cameron Diaz is really a role model in this area, as she's known for her good deeds nature-wise. Besides the fact she drives a hybrid car, sports eco-friendly fashion and so on, she's also careful not to waste water. How? Hmmm...by not flushing the toilet everytime she goes. Yup, that's right. You heard well. Not flushing. If it's only a "number one", she says, it can stay there.

Designer Bruno Vormkrijgers created this wonderful clock - yeah, that's what it is :) - for all you modern people. By now, it's a fact that we carefully plan every minute of our life and we're in a constant hurry. As for me, I'm always late for everything, though I try to get there in time :) But I'm watch-addicted. I mean, I really feel lost without always knowing what time it is.

So that's why this "About Time" clock is here. To start reminding us that time is what we make of it and that we can really take a second more to look out on the window and see beautiful things. Who cares if we're late for that appointment or if the deadline will expand? "It's about six o'clock" or maybe "It's almost seven now". So relax :)

When sitting down at a restaurant in Minneapolis, I noticed the waiter replaced my white napkin with a black one. Apparently the tradition here is that if you are wearing black trousers or a dark skirt, the reasoning is that a white linen napkin might leave visible lint on your clothing so they immediately swap it for a black one. Such careful attention to detail surely develops trust. I wonder how many of these kind of subtle details are managed at finer eating establishments. I looked for a list on the Web and couldn’t find anything comprehensive. The closest I could find were references to chilled silverware when serving cold appetizers, but I figure there are a few more subconciously discernable practices in the presentation of a meal out there … my hunt begins.

Hmmm...I dunno about you, but returning from a 5-star hotel that "stylishly" combined marble corridors with plastic chairs and tables, I'm very impressed by gestures like the one described above. Whatever. I guess most of the people there didn't even notice the plastic stuff. Might explain their good opinion about the place. Hummm...this makes me think about another question: is raising the level a good thing? Or maybe getting money out of people's ignorance is the way to go? Obviously, I'd say one should do "the right thing", but lately I've been pretty dissappointed when I did that. Doesn't anyone believe in that anymore? Is it so over-rated? So...pasee? :)

These last days have been a bit hard for me. I've learned a lot, that's why. [I usually skip classes and stuff, so learning too much in a very short period of time is harsh on my little brain, y'know?] :)

Looking through my closet yesterday, I noticed a slight problem. Stripes. They might not be a problem themselves, but hey, having one too many sure is!

So...I have striped Tees, scarfs, gloves, bags, dresses and shoes. And, obviously, striped bangles, earrings and some belts. I have horizontal stripes, vertical stripes, nautical stripes, small ones, thin ones, large ones, colorful ones, playful ones, strict ones and crazy ones. That's about it...I guess.

OK, by now, everybody's said something (bad) about Gareth Pugh's Spring 2008 collection - and especially that...hummmm...fake white mice collar. We totally understand weird-cool and toying with clothes, but we've also been through the "Puke!" [sorry, "Pugh!"] moment when seeing this collar. I guess it's the mice eyes that struck you out of all that white and generate a moment of repulsion.

But then again, you think - haven't I seen this before? Like in...the Fall of 1988? Yes, Jean Charles de Castelbajac did a wonderful job by sewing together 50 plush teddy bears on a cool coat that I remember talkin about some time ago. See the picture above. It's clear how our representations shape our fashion taste. When you see the teddy bear coat, you feel like "awwww...cute!" - and when you see the rat collar, you think "omg, this looks horrible!".

Why? Just because you got used to teddy bears by sleeping with them at night and you were taught to be afraid of mice or you dissected them during highschool biology classes? OK, this is not intended to be a manifesto. We're not saying you should like the rat thingie or wear it or anything else. Just think about it for a sec.

And then again, let's talk about it in fashion terms. It's fashion, right? And it's a fashion SHOW. It's supposed to stir up the interest and generate talks. It's not necessarily wearable. It's probably art. Some kind of weird art. Does it make it more acceptable if we call it this way? :)

This morning I met with my favourite boy in the world and we noticed that we totally matched - and without any planning!

So we were both wearing jeans, sneakers, a striped blouse and a jacket on top of it (still, he was in black and grey, I was in brown and green)! It was a bit scary at first, but then we laughed about it and it was really fun.

At this pace and with our "carefree" attitude towards the environment, we might soon realize there are no more trees on this planet of ours! (Sorry for the tone, but I've just seen some pictures with thousands of chopped down trees just chillin' near the road somewhere in the mountains in Romania, and they can really bring about some scary thoughts...)

But no need to worry! Designers really think of everything and there's a man-made alternative to everything we destroy (and then start to miss, but, oh well, it's too late...). This is my choice: the Tide Chandelier, made by designer Stuart Haygarth. No, it's not called like this because of the washing detergent, but it has something to do with tides. It's all made up of stuff the author collected from the shore. Obviously, it took a few years to gather all the right objects that could be transformed into this beauty. So, what do you say?
